Frequently Asked DJ Service Questions...

Will I Meet The DJ for My Event?

Yes. At your request, Ron Smith can personally do your event or you can interview one of our other DJs.
Only trust an experienced "Wedding DJ" (10 years of actual wedding experience or more) for your event. Don't let your reception be a training ground for inexperienced dj's and dj companies trying to over run the market with budget dj's.

What Styles Do You Offer?

We offer styles from very formal and laid back to a high energy evening you would expect
to see at a New York, Chicago, Pennsylvania or South Florida Type Wedding. Does your
event fall in between? Most do. That's why every reception we do is custom tailored to your musical taste,
interactivity level of the DJ and even the volume level.

How Often Can We Meet to Discuss Our Event?

Ron K. Smith Productions is a "Full Time" DJ and Video company with a professional office setting. We don't work out of the house and just do this on the weekend. We always offer unlimited pre-event planning and evening appointments to fit your schedule.

Are you insured?

Yes. Ask us about how liability works at a reception.

How much do you charge?

Fees are based on what weekend day your event is and what time of year.
This is a very important question and needs to be addressed further.. Comparing DJ companies by price is very dangerous. There are only a couple of DJ services in the State that even come close to our experience, expertise and customer service. We constantly hear horror stories from many of the reception sites and from brides about a budget DJ that did not show up, showed up late, or that simply ruined what was to be a wonderful evening because of their lack of experience and talent. Remember, you will probably pay more for a cheese tray and table decor than for your entertainment, and the entertainment is what people remember most from your wedding reception. We will do all we can to work within your budget. You will always get the most for your reception dollar with Ron K. Smith Productions.
Call today to find our about special pricing for Friday and Sunday weddings. Also, All January and February weddings are discounted. We would love to meet with you and discuss your special day.

Do you act as the Master of Ceremonies?

Yes.We handle all the formal announcements and make sure all your traditional events run smoothly and in a timely manner. We also coordinate with the caterers and photographers for a flawless, stress free event. Also Ron's polished voice assure's you never have to put up with the "sing song", self taught, nervous sounding MC style that is so prevelant in cheaper DJ's.

What kind of music do you play?

Since our music collection is exhaustive and comprehensive, we meet with you in advance to determine the pace, style and specific requests needed for your event. We play the music that you and your guests want to hear. You can choose from such musical styles as: Top-40 (Pop), Alternative, Classic Rock, Country, Oldies, Disco, Old School, Big Band, Jazz, and much, much more! We have the skill of club dj's, however, on the microphone and with your crowd we have the presence and finesse to be your master of ceremonies.
Also, your do not play list will be honored. It's your day!

Do you take requests?

If you desire for us to take requests from your guests, we will, as long as they are within the guidelines you provide for us in our pre-event planning meetings.

What time do you set up?

We set up approx. 1 hour prior to the scheduled start time to thoroughly test the equipment and ensure that you and your guests have the best sound possible. It's also a comfort to know that your DJ will be ready to start on time before your guests arrive. We also use this time to coordinate with the personnel at your reception location in case of any last minute changes.

How will the DJ be dressed?

We are formally dressed in tuxedos. Your reception is a formal event. However, if you so desire we are happy to wear suit and tie at your request.

Do you take breaks?

Only bands take breaks. (smile)

Do you drink at the event?

We don't.

Do you need a banquet table or have any special power needs?

We coordinate in advance and directly with the people in charge of your reception. This way you will have no worries about our electrical or space needs. If you are having a home event or a tented event, one 6 to 8ft table with linen and one 15amp circuit is all we require.

What kind of equipment do you bring?

We strictly use professional, high-end sound and lighting equipment (the kind found at your local radio station or night club) for quality sound and reliability. We do regular maintenance on our gear and upgrade frequently.

Do you have a wireless microphone? And do you charge extra for it?

We include a wireless microphone as part of our standard sound system at no additional charge.

How big is the sound system?

Our sound setup is no bigger than a small banquet table. Power wise, we can handle any size event.

Do you have backup equipment? Yes. Our systems are redundant which prepares us for any equipment malfunctions. We have a DJ on call each weekend as well.

Is there a charge for travel?

In most cases no. We only charge for travel if the event is more than one hour outside of the Raleigh/Durham area.

How far in advance do we need to book?

We encourage you to reserve your date with us as early as possible. Nine months to a full year in advance is really not too soon. Saturday evenings fill up especially fast. The first couple to put down a deposit on their event will get that date guaranteed in writing. Short notice or last minute bookings are always possible. You should call us regardless.
